FMCP is Now Accepting Applications for the 2010 AMCP/FMCP Student Pharmacist Summer Internship Programs
2010 AMCP/FMCP/Pfizer Inc Managed Care Pharmacy
Summer Internship Program
The Foundation for Managed Care Pharmacy (FMCP), in conjunction with the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP), and under the auspices of Pfizer Inc, has made available twelve managed care internships for the summer of 2010. The goal of the program is to enhance a student’s awareness of career options in managed care pharmacy practice settings or within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) by direct hands-on involvement. Ten managed care organizations and two VA medical centers will each host an intern for this program.
Following a competitive selection process, each selected student pharmacist will participate in a structured program, working with a pharmacist preceptor at a managed care organization or at a Veterans Affairs medical center. Students will complete a structured rotation, an assigned project and will be required to present the results of their project as a poster at AMCP's Educational Conference in October 2010. In addition, all AMCP/FMCP summer interns will participate in the Intern Best Project Competition.
Interns will also spend one week at AMCP/FMCP offices in Alexandria, Virginia, where they will be introduced to the workings of professional associations and participate in a professional peer review process for the Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy.
The interns will be paid a stipend, including housing, travel and other approved expenses, and will attend AMCP's 2010 Educational Conference in St. Louis, MO.
To be eligible for the AMCP/FMCP/Pfizer Managed Care Pharmacy Summer Internship Program, a student must be enrolled full-time in an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy during the 2009-2010 school year, with anticipated graduation in 2011 or 2012 with a PharmD degree. Three letters of reference must be supplied with each application, one from the dean of the school, one from a pharmacist faculty member and one from a non-relative pharmacist. Applications and letters of reference must be postmarked or received online by February 1, 2010. The internship must be completed within a ten-week period between May and August 2009.
We are confident that students participating in the program will benefit from their experience, and look forward to the continued success of the summer internship program.
